So you would think that this wouldn't be a
big issue, but it actually is, even among designers that are my peers. Which is how to place your furniture on an
area rug. I know it sounds really mundane, but it's
actually, there are some tricks to it. You want to make sure that your rug is either
one or two ways. Actually one of three ways to be honest with
you. It can either go everything is on the rug,
so the rug actually goes a couple of inches past the furniture. Make sure that you have a clear walkway. That your rug is not half in your walkway,
so that people aren't tripping on it as a hazard. Another way which is my favorite is that you
have the front two legs of the furniture pieces on the rug. So if you have it as an area rug, you have
your sofa front two legs on. Maybe you have a chair catty corner with it's
two front legs on, and your coffee table is completely on the area rug.
That way you have a nice perimeter of flooring
around the rug. It makes it feel like the furniture it a part
of the room. It's not held hostage against the walls and
it really feels warm and inviting. The third way is not my favorite, but it is
done. Is that the area rug is in front of the furniture
pieces. It's not under the furniture. It's not behind the furniture. It literally sits under the coffee table for
the most part, and then it goes right up to the furniture pieces. This is not my favorite. But like I said, it is done and it is an option. The best one I really feel is when you have
two feet on and two feet off..

Hi, and welcome to my home. My name is Joanna Lavén
and I'm an interior designer and stylist. Today I'm going to show you
how to decorate with rugs and more specifically
how to place them in your living room. Using a rug can really define a space
and create a room within a room. I try to avoid placing the furniture
up against the wall.
Instead, I start by putting the rug
in the centre of the room and then place the furniture on top of it. A thing that many people do
is that they buy a rug that's too small
for the space they are decorating, and my tip to you is that you buy a rug that's big enough
to fit your coffee table, sofa, the front of the sofa,
and the front of the armchairs.
If your rug is big enough to fit the sofa, then you can leave around 25cm
around the sofa so it doesn't look like
it's standing on the edge. And if it doesn't,
you should place the sofa like this, the front legs on the rug and around 25cm overlapping..

THE GREAT ADVENTURE ON A WINDY MARCH DAY (Evergreen Tales theme music playing.) One day in March, Nurse Jane bought a new
rug, and Uncle Wiggily helped her take it home to the hollow stump bungalow. “If you hadn’t helped me I never could
have carried it,” said the muskrat lady housekeeper. “My! how hard the wind blows!” Uncle Wiggily could feel it on his pink, twinkling
nose.
“The wind is getting worse!” he shouted. “Hold the rug, Nurse Jane! My hat is blowing off my head!” Uncle Wiggily let go his end of the rug and
reached up to grasp his hat as it blew off his head. But the wind was so strong that it filled
the tall hat like a balloon, and lifted the bunny rabbit off his feet. “Uncle Wiggily! Help me!” cried Nurse Jane, as she felt the March wind
beginning to raise the rug and her with it. But the bunny rabbit gentleman was having
troubles of his own.
Just look! Uncle Wiggily heard Nurse Jane’s cries and
knowing that if he wished to save his housekeeper he would have to let go his hat, he did. Away it sailed, and then up in the air went
the rug, taking the muskrat lady with it. “Come along, Uncle Wiggily!” shouted Miss
Fuzzy Wuzzy, “I don’t want to go adventuring alone!” The bunny hopped along until he grasped one
corner of the rug.
“Pull me up!” he begged. Nurse Jane leaned over the edge of the rug,
which was like a raft in the air, and caught hold of Uncle Wiggily. “Up you come!” she cried. “We’re sailing away on a regular voyage!” “That’s right!” agreed Uncle Wiggily,
twinkling his pink nose very fast. “Mind your bonnet, Janie! It’ll blow away.” The muskrat lady said she had it tied by a
string so it couldn’t. “How will we ever get down?” she asked.
At last Nurse Jane pulled Uncle Wiggily up
on the rug, and there they were safe for a while, at least. “But what is going to become of us?” asked
the muskrat lady. Uncle Wiggily did not answer. He seemed to be looking at something in the
air. “What is it?” asked Nurse Jane. “It looks like Mrs. Twistytail, the lady
pig,” the bunny rabbit gentleman answered. “It must be a strong wind to blow her!” The wind blew harder and harder.
All at once it blew Mrs. Twistytail along
so that she was directly over the rug on which were sailing Uncle Wiggily and Nurse Jane. “Quee! Quee!” cried the lady pig. “Oh, this is terrible!” Nurse Jane whispered and said: “It will
be if she falls on us!” Uncle Wiggily twinkled his nose again. “She would be a good anchor to bring us
to the ground,” said the bunny.
“If you can fall in between us, Mrs. Twistytail,”
called Uncle Wiggily to the lady pig, “you will bear us to the ground.” The lady pig tried, but she missed the rug
and fell on some hay. “Oh dear, we’ll never get down!” sighed Nurse Jane. “Yes! Yes!” cried Uncle Wiggily. “Mrs. Twistytail struck on some hay and
she’s bouncing up! She will land on us yet and weight us down
so that we can land!” “Mrs. Twistytail! Mrs. Twistytail! This way if you please!” called Nurse Jane,
when the lady pig, lovely and fat, was up in the air again, above the rug.
“Fall here, Mrs. Twistytail, and you’ll
help bear us to the earth!” Mrs. Twistytail squealed: “Quee! Quee! I’ll do mybest,” she grunted. And down she fell, landing on the sailing
rug, safely between Uncle Wiggily and Nurse Jane. Down they went! “It’s a good thing you landed here with
us, Mrs. Twistytail,” said Nurse Jane, as the pig lady fell softly on the rug. “It’s a good thing I didn’t alight on
a church steeple!” grunted Mrs. Twistytail. “Oh, I never felt such a wind in all my
life!” Uncle Wiggily said he was glad the pig lady
happened to drop in. And then down to the ground went the rug with
a bump. “How jolly!” laughed the Squiggle Bugs. And if the lemon squeezer doesn’t pinch
the rubber ball and make it squeal like a little pig having his face washed, the next
pictures and story will tell how HOW MR. LONGEARS SHOWED THE PIGGY BOYS HOW TO BEHAVE
IN SCHOOL.
so you've just finished your piece only to find a bald spot on the edge here's how you fix that grab some yarn in that color and you're going to cut enough of these Loops to fill that bald space open it up and put a little bit of hot glue right there directly on the backing Fabric and then you're going to take whatever instrument you use to not burn your fingers to death to press those fibers into the backing fabric squeezing around it so everybody gets joined together and then you just clip off those long edges trim it all up nice and pretty and it's like it never even happened oh
Look! ChuChu, ChaCha, Chiku and Chika are on their magical flying carpet. And they're off to the land of fairy tales. If you're ready for a fun ride say Chiiii… Choooo… Chaaaa… Chiiii… Choooo… Chaaaa… And today, the magical carpet has brought ChuChu, ChaCha, Chiku and Chika to a beautiful, quiet and lonely forest. Wow! These woods are beautiful. But there doesn't seem to be anybody around. I don't think we'll meet anyone here today. But, ChuChu was wrong. Oh, what a surprise! By the way, I'm ChuChu and these are my friends Chiku, Chika and ChaCha. Who are you, and why are you looking so scared? Hi, ChuChu, Chiku, Chika and ChaCha. I'm Little Red Riding Hood. And I'm scared because there's a big bad wolf after me. A big bad wolf? Yes, and he's going to eat me up. Actually, the big bad wolf was pretending to be my granny because I'd told him where my granny lived and then…
Whoa, wait, calm down, Red Riding Hood. We can't understand what you're trying to tell us. You're right. I need to calm down and tell you what's happened today. And so began Little Red Riding Hood's story. Little Red Riding Hood was a friendly little girl who lived with her mother in a tiny cottage at the edge of the woods. Deep in the woods was her grandmother's house. Little Red Riding Hood loved her grandmother dearly. Mother, these apples are so red and juicy. I'm sure Granny would love some. May I take a basketful of apples to Granny, please? Oh, that's so sweet, my dear. But, to get to Granny's house you must walk through the woods.
And the woods can be dangerous. Oh, please, Mother, I promise I'll be careful. Promise me, my dear, that you'll remember the golden rules. First, don't stop anywhere, go straight to Granny's. Second, don't talk to strangers. And third, don't give strangers any information about yourself! I'll remember the golden rules, Mother. Now, may I go, please? Sure, my dear. Take care. And so, after promising her mother that she would be very careful in the woods, Little Red Riding Hood set off for her grandmother's house. It was a beautiful day out in the woods.
Birds were singing and wildflowers were growing everywhere. Oh, these flowers are gorgeous. I'm sure Granny would love some. Little Red Riding Hood had promised her mother that she would go straight to her grandmother's house, without stopping anywhere. But, when she saw some pretty flowers, she forgot all about the first golden rule. Little did she realize that there was danger lurking close by. A big bad wolf, who was very, very hungry, was hiding in the bushes, waiting for some easy food to come by. And as soon as he saw Little Red Riding Hood, he realized she would make a tasty meal! Putting on a friendly smile, the wolf walked over to her. Will Red Riding Hood remember the second golden rule? Hello, little girl, what's your name? Hi, Mr.Wolf.
I'm called Little Red Riding Hood. Oh, no! Little Red Riding Hood forgot that she was not supposed to talk to strangers. And what are you doing in this woods all by yourself, Little Red Riding Hood? Will she at least remember the 3rd golden rule and not give away any information about herself? Oh, Mr.Wolf, I'm off to visit my Granny. Oh, I see and whereabouts does your Granny live? Do you see that pretty little cottage in the middle of the woods? That's my Granny's house.
I see! Well, have a good day, Little Red Riding Hood. I know I'm going to have a great day! The big bad wolf had all the information that he needed! So, he took a shortcut and headed over to Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house. And… without making a sound, the big bad wolf entered Granny's house. The big bad wolf tied Granny to a chair, took her cap and her spectacles and locked her up in a cupboard. Then he wore her cap and spectacles and crept into her bed. He pulled the covers all the way up to his face… and he waited. He didn't have to wait long.
Granny! Surprise! Granny? Is everything okay? You look kind of different. I'm not feeling too well today. Come closer, dear. Granny, what big ears you have! The better to hear you with, my dear. Granny, what big eyes you have! The better to see you with, my dear. But… but… Granny, what big teeth you have! The better to eat you with! And saying that, the big bad wolf leapt at Red Riding Hood. She was quick on her feet and she dodged him round and round the house. You're not my Granny, you imposter! You're the wolf I met in the woods! What have you done with my Granny? Oh, Granny, help, help me! Your Granny's tied up and locked in that cupboard and she can't come to help you.
You are my lunch! And having said that, the big bad wolf lunged at Little Red Riding Hood. She ran out of the house and charged down the path, as fast as her legs could carry her. And that's how I got here. Wow, that's quite a story. Will you help me, please? I need to find my Granny and set her free. Of course, we'll help you Little Red Riding Hood. Let's go back to your Granny's house, very, very quietly. The wolf is scary, so we must plan this carefully. Let's think of a smart idea for trapping him. So, very quietly, hiding behind trees and bushes, they made their way back to Little Red Riding Hood's grandmother's house. The big bad wolf was still around. Little Red Riding Hood was worried that he may harm her Granny.
They had to think fast! And just then, Chiku had an idea. Chiku noticed a deep pit in the ground. She thought it would make a perfect trap for the wolf. All of them quietly got to work and very quickly the trap was set. Next, Little Red Riding Hood had to lure the big bad wolf to the trap. Hey, big bad wolf! Look, I got away! Catch me if you can! You just wait! The plan worked! The angry wolf charged after Little Red Riding Hood and she led him straight to the trap. Hey! Get me out of here! You're better off there, Mr.Wolf! And so, Little Red Riding Hood's story ended happily.
Granny was free at last! Little Red Riding Hood told her that they were safe from the big bad wolf, who was sitting at the bottom of a deep pit. But Granny wasn't done yet. He dared to try and eat my little granddaughter? I have to teach the big bad wolf a lesson. I'm going to call the village chief and ask him to put the big bad wolf away in a place where he can never cause trouble again! And the best part of the story is that Little Red Riding Hood had learnt a very important lesson, to follow the golden rules that help keep kids safe! We've got to get going now. Bye bye, Granny. Bye, Little Red Riding Hood. Stay safe! ChuChu, ChaCha, Chiku and Chika, thank you for saving Granny and me from the big bad wolf.
And I've realized something today, that golden rules are made for our safety and I will never again disobey them. Thank you and do visit us again, bye! That was fun! Now to our next adventure in Fairytale Land! If you want to go on another magical ride with ChuChu and friends, say Chiiii… Choooo… Chaaaa… Chiiii… Choooo… Chaaaa….
This homeowner in Tinton Falls, New Jersey called our office after finding a large number of flying insects in his living room. Once we began investigating we noticed that these pests were hovering around a rug that was stashed in the corner of the hallway. So we investigated and found a large colony of clothing web moths harboring in the rug. The larvae of these pests like to attack the natural fibers inside clothes such as wool or cashmere sweaters. The females carefully place their eggs deep in the mesh of the infested fabric by attaching the eggs with the glue they secrete. At the owner's request, we're going to dispose of the rug and then treat the entire interior of the home with a liquid residual. This application is going to exterminate the clothing web moths almost immediately. We're also going to set up several pheromone traps and then schedule follow-up inspection to monitor the infestation and, if needed, apply any additional treatments.
Beautiful, green and very dense carpet!
Something that all fish keepers dream of and possibly the best part of beautiful
planted tanks. But it's difficult, very difficult to create and basically reserved
or very advanced fish keepers. Right? Wrong! Give me just few minutes of your time and I will explain everything because it's
much easier than you might think. Before we start, a little explanation from my
side. This was supposed to be a part of much bigger build video for the tank that you can
see right now. And that video is still coming later. But because I read a lot of comments and
questions about exactly that topic I decided to make this video about carpeting only.
So
this is what we're gonna focus on right now. Okay let's get to work! We obviously gonna
need some tank. Size in this case doesn't matter at all. You can grow a carpet pretty
much everywhere. What actually matters is the substrate that we're gonna use. If you want
to have a dense and very healthy carpet I would really recommend to use active substrate. For
this one I used Advanced Soil Shrimp. We don't need a lot of it. Just one or two centimeters to
cover bottom of the tank. In general carpeting plants are quite small and they don't have
huge root system so it's going to be fine. And now we're gonna jump ahead
straight to the planting of our carpet. In this case I use Eleocharis parvula.
It looks like teeny tiny grass and it grows perfect as a carpet. So what you
have to do with it is divide it into very small parts.
Those small parts can be
really tiny. Don't be afraid of anything. I know that right now those plants don't
even have roots. That's okay! And I know that you're afraid that everything is going
to float once you fill the tank with water They won't! Just divide your plant into teeny
tiny parts and spread it around your substrate exactly like I'm showing you right now. The
better the spread of your plant the better your carpet will be. And it's also going to
spread much faster.
If you're gonna create big pieces of this plant and plant them only in
a few places, you're gonna create islands – not carpet! They're gonna connect eventually,
but it's going to take a lot of time. So this is how it's supposed to look like
more or less. Small pieces of the plant spread evenly around the tank. And by the way
you don't have to use exactly that plant. Just use whenever carpeting plant you want. The
approach is pretty much exactly the same. And now what we're gonna do is NOT fill
it with water. Just spray your carpet a little bit with water and cover the
tank with plastic foil. That's it! And the only equipment that you need right now is
light. And this is what we call – Dry Start! For the next weeks what you have to do is
open the foil from time to time and spray your carpet with water.
Don't do anything
else. The only thing that you have to do is keep the moisture in the tank and let
the carpet spread and grow. This is why I mentioned that you don't have to be worried
about floating or lack of roots. So what your plant is doing right now is developing very
strong healthy roots underneath the substrate. They are hooking themselves to the substrate
and they are not going to float, no chance. But because you have no water there is no chance
to develop algae! So if you think about this, you can use very strong light during this
process. Your plants are already planted in very rich substrate. They have
absolutely everything they need and they don't have to fight with algae!
So it's a perfect scenario for them. And only one week later you can already see
the progress.
The carpet is much more dense and most important you can already see some
runners. That means that the roots are already developed and the plants are holding tightly to
the substrate and you're ready to flood the tank. You can see from above how big is
the difference. Before. And after! And when I filled the tank with water I
had zero floating plants. So everything was already hooked. Entire carpet is heavily
rooted and it's growing like crazy. So after filling the tank with water all I have to do
right now is do a regular water changes. At the very beginning especially with active substrate
is very important. But already the plant mass for this tank is very big so it's quite easy to
fight off any algae. The carpet is very dense, very green, very healthy and is growing like
crazy. And because of that I have minimal problems with algae. Of course there will be
some at the very beginning, but this is normal and it's much easier for me to fight it off.
So as I mentioned full build video for this tank is coming.
So if you want to see a FINAL
result for this – maybe you should subscribe? I hope you learned something from today and
you are much more confident that you can do your own carpets for your tanks.
It's easy! Don't be afraid of it, try it out! But for now thank you very much for
watching! And as always see you in the next one!.
