Interior hacks: Rug placement guide for your living room

Hi, and welcome to my home. My name is Joanna Lavén
and I'm an interior designer and stylist. Today I'm going to show you
how to decorate with rugs and more specifically
how to place them in your living room. Using a rug can really define a space
and create a room within a room. I try to avoid placing the furniture
up against the wall.

Instead, I start by putting the rug
in the centre of the room and then place the furniture on top of it. A thing that many people do
is that they buy a rug that's too small
for the space they are decorating, and my tip to you is that you buy a rug that's big enough
to fit your coffee table, sofa, the front of the sofa,
and the front of the armchairs.

If your rug is big enough to fit the sofa, then you can leave around 25cm
around the sofa so it doesn't look like
it's standing on the edge. And if it doesn't,
you should place the sofa like this, the front legs on the rug and around 25cm overlapping..
